Hi, I’m Ruth.

After singing professionally for nearly two decades, I’ve learned so much about the delicate and nuanced instrument that is the voice. I am based in Seattle, WA, and maintain a voice studio in West Seattle. I’m excited to help others learn about their unique voice.

Maybe you are young and interested in learning more about your voice. Or maybe you are an adult who has always wanted to master how to sing in tune in the shower. Whatever your story, I’d love to hear from you! Every voice has room to grow.

I continue to sing, primarily with professional choral ensembles in the Seattle area (choir is my passion!). I also do periodic solo gigs and enjoy learning new repertoire.

FAQs

what does a voice lesson entail?

This varies greatly from student to student, depending on goals, experience, age, etc. Generally, I start voice lessons with technique-focused warm-ups to get the breath and voice ready to sing safely. Then we may focus on particular technique exercises, followed by working on specific repertoire to put your technique into practice. Voice lessons take place in my West Seattle studio or occasionally over Zoom.

What can i expect from you as a teacher?

I pre-plan each lesson based on your specific needs and goals, so every voice lesson looks a little different. You can expect focus, intense listening, and a dedication to your vocal health and growth from me.

What is a trial lesson?

A trial lesson is truly just a time for us to meet and figure out if we might be a good partnership. It’ll involve a little bit of a singing, but mostly talking as we work to figure out your goals and how I can help you meet them.

Do you offer discounts for prepay?

I do! If you pre-pay for 10 lessons, I’ll grant you a 5% discount. You can pay by check, cash, Venmo, or PayPal. This option is nonrefundable, but you can use the lessons anytime within a year of payment.

What is your attendance policy?

Growth as a singer requires regular commitment and practice, so to get the results you hope to see, you need to make sure to show up and practice regularly. However, I totally understand that emergencies and illnesses happen! Please give me at least 24 hours notice for any cancellations to respect my time. No-call no-shows will be charged the full amount of their lesson. I do expect that if you are exhibiting any symptoms of illness (cold, COVID, flu, etc.) that you will either switch to an online lesson with me or reschedule.

Who took these photos on your website?

All photo credit for headshots goes to Willi Pixel. Filmography credit for linked videos is indicated on each YouTube page.

What styles do you teach?

I specialize in classical technique, and a strong classical foundation can be applied to nearly every vocal style out there. It’s an excellent place to start. I also work with students looking for healthy nonvibrato technique, as is often used in choirs or early music. Together, we can sing classical, opera, Broadway, folk, and more.
